Millions of People Employed in the Allied Health Industry
There are an estimated 6 million people working in the allied health industry. Not only does allied health already employ so many people, but the federal projections indicate that the field will continue to grow over the next ten years. Since there are already over 85 career options in the allied health industry, job-seekers of all different skill levels and educational backgrounds can find work within this field.

The BLS predicts an expansion rate of by at least 28% by 2020 for these particular positions. In some cases, the increase is even higher. High-in-Demand Careers
The beauty of having such varied occupation options in this field is that there are positions available for people of varying interests, skill and education levels. Some careers, such as home health aides, are very high in demand and only require certification. There is an expected 71% growth for this position by 2020 according to the BLS, so there is great payoff for the certification. There are also professions like athletic trainers that might require more education. Positions like physician’s assistants will usually expect a master’s degree for the job.
Growing Industry
As Baby Boomer age, allied health professionals should continue to see their industry grow. The Boomers have been one of the largest populations in history, plus they are on track to live longer than their predecessors. This trend means that the generation will need more health care. This longer lifespan along with the increase of available prescription drugs make allied health a sensible career path to pursue.
